IN POOR TASTE

If someone gave you a choice to buy this Prada bag or provide micro-loans to six clients, helping to rescue their families from a lifetime of poverty, which would you choose?

For the amount of this Nappa Gaufre Prada bag, $2500, an average of six microfinance loans could be funded to support low-income entrepreneurs, who normally would not have access to credit, with the capital to finance their businesses.  By photographing the juxtaposition of this Prada bag and micro-loan recipients, I am attempting to create fiscal perspective, bringing awareness to the fact that we are regularly faced with that choice.

By spending our money differently we can start to consciously resist the overpowering current of mainstream societal values, making truly rich choices, rather than perceived ones. Through this Prad-ject, the pictures will help us to see that we have a responsibility to challenge our notions of wealth, and what that means in different contexts.  Do we really need another bag, or could that money be used more wisely?
