Emerging Media Final Project
Too often we let fear keep us away from love. I cannot preach because I am the biggest culprit of letting my fears get the best of me. With this project I hope to overcome mine, and inspire others to do the same.
All day long I am running from my being, esoterically and literally. How many times have we heard the gurus, saints, and most enlightened beings tell us to be here now? Apparently that is where I AM.
Time is relative, according to scientists like Einstein and most spiritual gurus. To them we can only be here and now because that is all there is. These esoteric concepts are not easily written or spoken about.
Like you suggested, I am going to use art to help bring the light to the surface since most of us lack the courage to dig deep and experience it for ourselves. This is unchartered territory for many. Usually our individual egos lead the way, and people have tendency to follow.
I run away from myself like most everyone else, and that way, in the least, I do not feel as alone. Sometimes it gets lonely if I am true to myself because there is no one here, where I AM. What would I do if I were completely present, here and now? I find more company when I am feeding the darkness of our collective ignorance.
That brings me to my potential final project: I would love to get a large format film or digital camera and take gorgeously composed and naturally lit images from heavily trafficked iconic locations in NYC. Similarly to the Grand Central Station light images, I would play with the concept of being all connected, and there being more than what we see on the surface.
The light will be at the center, but I am not completely sure how to enlighten people with these images. I need to explore with photoshop and illustrator the best way to turn our attention inward to be one with everything and nothing at the center of our being.
In my dream world, these images will be blown up wallpaper size for a gallery exhibition in addition to videos with a similar effect. I am also fantasizing about creating a completely immersive gallery experience by flashing the brightest almost blinding lights for 30 sec every 10 minutes, kind of like how many describe a near death experience.
This is the first time I will be creating a project with the intention of showing it in a gallery space. It is informing my work especially when deciding what format camera to use to produce the best quality images for printing on a very large scale instead for online consumption.
