Project Explanation

All day long I run from my being, esoterically and literally. How many times have we heard the gurus, and saints tell us to be here now and that we are all one? Yet we rarely are present enough to see the light.

Time is relative according to scientists like Einstein and spiritual gurus.  To them we can only be here and now because that is all there is. Unfortunately these esoteric concepts are not easily written or spoken about.

How often are the words ‘Be here now’ used to help us experience the oneness that is everything and nothing at all? Being present is easier said than done. Especially since it may lead to the end of life as we have come to know it. Once the box opens it can never be shut. That is when it all becomes relative.

Through this art project I am attempting to express these esoteric concepts by bringing the light to the surface. Many of us know there is truth to these concepts but we lack the courage to dig deep and experience it for ourselves.

Usually our individual egos lead the way, and people have tendency to follow. Our collective reality is a powerful current that is easy to get caught up in. To go against it takes a leader who isn’t afraid to let go and just be one with the universe.

Letting go means giving up any preconceived notions of identity.  Venturing into the unknown would be like a mini death, but with it comes a rebirth.  I believe strongly that if people could experience the universal oneness there would be more peace in the world.

Too often we go about our day to day and never take the time to be present allowing the current of the collective reality to take over. We are joint creators of our reality and it is important to check in to make sure we are not headed toward a lemming cliff.

Look at what we have done to our earth. If we don’t take a stand and change our actions we are better off dead. We need to start holding each other accountable for actions, not rationalizing them. The fact that everyone else is doing it, does not mean it is OK.

Maybe the simple black and white images with light bursts emanating from everyone’s heart will help people to see our essence and that at our core we are all the same. Location and time is not important in these pictures or ever. Our being is always here and now.

In the second version of the images I added color to highlight the distractions outside ourselves that keep us from the one thing that can save us from plunging to our lemming death. The colored objects are intentionally unsettling, but after the classes response I will probably revert back to just B&W images to keep the focus on the light. The whole point of the project was to mute the distractions.

Like you mentioned, this is a work in progress that I can develop for years to come. I really did struggle with some very frustrating technical limitations. It is embarrassing how much time I spent on this project based on the outcome. I am comparing this conceptual art project to a garden. Nothing replaces time once the seed has been planted.
